A caliper refers to a device used to measure the distance between two opposite sides of an object. It typically consists of two arms or jaws, one fixed and one movable, that can be adjusted to fit the object being measured. Calipers are widely used for various precision measurements, such as the outer diameter, inner diameter, and depth of an object.
There are different types of calipers, but they generally fall into two main categories: vernier calipers and digital calipers.
Vernier Calipers: These calipers have a main scale and a sliding vernier scale. The vernier scale allows for more precise readings by measuring the difference between the lengths on the main scale and the vernier scale.
Digital Calipers: These calipers have a digital display that directly shows the measurement. They are often considered more user-friendly and provide quick and easy readings.
